In Memory of Barry Lee Williams
Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting a meaningful tribute to the life and legacy of Barry Lee Williams—a beloved husband, son, teacher, coach, mentor, and friend to many. Barry tragically passed away at the young age of 36 on May 5, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Heather; his mother, Patsy; and a large community of former students, players, fraternity brothers, and fellow members of the racing and educational communities who continue to honor his memory.
Born in Wilkes County on October 19, 1976, to Ralph “Butch” and Patsy Call Williams, Barry was a proud member of Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2000 and was a National Board Certified Teacher. A member of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity, Barry dedicated his professional life to education and youth development. He served as a physical education teacher for 13 years at C.C. Wright Elementary School, where he was honored as Teacher of the Year for 2008–2009. He also made a lasting impact as a football coach at Wilkes Central High School.
Barry’s influence continues to resonate through the countless students and athletes he mentored—many of whom carry forward his values, lessons, and spirit. In recognition of his legacy, Wilkes Central High School is planning to construct a permanent brick memorial on campus. This memorial will include a bronze helmet to symbolize Coach Williams’ enduring impact on the school's football program and community.
All funds raised will go directly toward the creation of this memorial and to supporting the Wilkes Central football program. The more we raise, the more fitting and lasting this tribute can be.
Thank you for your support in celebrating a life that gave so much to so many.
