Dear York High School Alumni,

My name is Jane Brogan and I am a 1981 graduate of York High School. I currently teach political science and economics at York, following in the footsteps of everyone’s favorite, Greg Adams.

During my time at YHS, there has been one thing that has always bothered me. On the northeast wall of the gym, the school displays photos of every state championship team, with two notable exceptions. There are no photos of our 1977 or 1979 Girls Class B State Basketball Champion teams.

Over the past year, the gym has undergone an extensive renovation which included reworking the bleachers, redoing the floor, and painting the gym for the first time since it was originally constructed in 1975. I saw this as an opportunity to add the ‘77 and ‘79 basketball championship team photos to the wall, because everything had to come down for the paint job. I have been in touch with Coach Tom Sheppard over the past few years, and we have talked about these photos, and the need to have something in the gym to represent the teams. I reached out to Tom about two weeks ago, and he immediately went to his archives and found photos of both teams, which were taken at Pershing Auditorium, just before the girls took the floor for their first games. Tom graciously delivered the photos to Images II in Lincoln, for replication, enlargement, and some fine-tuning. I was able to pick them up this past week, and will deliver them to the high school. YHS has agreed to cover the framing expense. When the gym renovation is completed in a few weeks, photos of the 1977 and 1979 Girls Class B State Basketball Teams will be added to the wall, alongside all of our state champion teams.

Up to this point, all of the work that Tom and I have done has been at our expense. The printing and enlarging bill from Images II exceeded $440. To help defray my out-of-pocket expenses, I am asking for some help from you. I appreciate your consideration in donating for the cause.
