What happened in Hong Kong?
On 26 November 2025, a catastrophic fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court, a high-rise residential estate in Tai Po District, Hong Kong, rapidly engulfing several of its 31-storey towers. Fueled by flammable external materials, the blaze spread with devastating speed, becoming the deadliest residential fire the city has experienced in nearly 80 years. At least 94 lives were lost, dozens were injured, and many remain unaccounted for, while hundreds of residents have been displaced. In this time of crisis, the collective psyche and resilience of Hongkongers are being tested to their limits. Rescue efforts continued for more than 24 hours as emergency teams worked tirelessly amid extensive destruction, and community relief and recovery efforts remain ongoing.
Many of us have connections to Hong Kong; our thoughts are very much with those affected.
How can You help?
PALHK is collecting donations in the UK, which will be pooled and transferred in full to support the Hong Kong Red Cross Emergency Appeal. These funds will contribute to on-site first aid services, emergency cash assistance, essential daily supplies, psychological support, post-disaster recovery assistance, and more.
As the Hong Kong Red Cross accepts donations only in HKD, we will convert the total GBP amount and publish full transparency, including:
- Total GBP collected
- Total platform fees deducted
- Exchange rate used
- Total HKD transferred
- Donation receipt from the charity
Donations will close on 2 December 2025 at 7pm UK time to ensure timely transfer of funds.
Thank you for supporting Hong Kong from afar. We may be a small community, but together, we can help. ❤️
Please note that this is a community-led initiative, not an official charity fundraiser. PALHK is responsible for transferring all collected funds directly to Hong Kong Red Cross.
