This year I will be running the Great North Run in memory of my beautiful niece Alba who was stillborn at 38 weeks in February 2023. I don’t think I truly understood the meaning of the word heartbroken until that day. The impact loosing Alba had, and continues to have on our family is devastating.
In honour of Alba I would like to do something positive to raise money for a charity who continue to support my sister and brother in law through the most awful moments in their life. The Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity supports the Honeysuckle Bereavement Service for parents and families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss. As well as a more traditional monthly support group, a football team Honeysuckle FC has been set up for bereaved Dad’s to come together through sport. This is such an important club which reaches out to a group who may not otherwise engage in much needed support.
I’ve not run this distance before and I know it’s going to be a big physical and mental challenge, but I couldn’t think of a better reason to complete the GNR to raise money in Alba’s memory. Love you To the Moon and Back little one x
