On April 15, 2025, Jayne and Jamiere Abney welcomed their second daughter, Honey, into the world. Honey was born with a rare genetic condition called trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome) — a disorder caused by having an extra 13th chromosome. Babies with trisomy 13 often face severe developmental challenges, including congenital heart defects, cleft palate, breathing difficulties, and profound neurological complications. Most infants do not survive beyond the first days or weeks of life.
But Honey has been different from the start. From the moment she arrived, she has been called a miracle time and time again. Defying every expectation, she has continued to surprise her doctors and bring indescribable joy to her family.
In her short life so far, Honey has already reached incredible milestones:
She recently passed a swallow study, allowing her to take small amounts of milk by bottle instead of solely relying on her feeding tube.
She was fitted with her first hearing aid and glasses, giving her new ways to connect with the world around her.
Through it all, she has shown strength and resilience far beyond what anyone thought possible.
Today, Honey is fighting an infection and is admitted at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Her care requires constant, around-the-clock supervision. Jayne and Jamiere have rearranged every part of their lives to be there for both of their daughters — taking turns sleeping in shifts so that one parent is always awake to monitor Honey, while also working to provide for their family.
At the same time, they remain devoted to giving their older daughter, Harper (2 years old), a joyful childhood filled with love, adventure, and lasting memories.
The Abneys have stayed steadfast in their faith and strength, but the emotional, physical, and financial toll has been overwhelming. Between lost wages, hospital trips, and daily expenses, their resources have been stretched to the breaking point. Even their caseworker has shared that because trisomy 13 is so rarely survived, there are simply no formal funding resources for children like Honey, unlike other conditions. This has left them with little outside assistance.
Now, for the first time, Jayne and Jamiere are opening their hearts to their friends, family, and community — asking for help.
Your donations will go directly toward:
Covering lost wages so they can focus on caring for Honey and Harper.
Travel and lodging expenses tied to Honey’s ongoing hospitalizations.
Medical supplies and specialized care needs at home.
Everyday essentials for their family during this challenging season.
Every gift, no matter the size, is a reminder that they are not alone in this journey. If you are unable to give financially, sharing this page and lifting their family in prayer means just as much.
The Abneys believe that every day with Honey is a gift. By supporting them, you are helping create more moments of love, connection, and memory-making for this incredible family.
Thank you for standing with them. Together, we can remind Jayne, Jamiere, Harper, and Honey that they are surrounded by love and community.
