HONEST JOHN PLAIN - REST IN PUNK

Story

Honest John Plain Rest In Punk April 12, 1952 - June 13, 2025 On Wednesday 30th July, celebrate the life and lyrics of HJP amongst family, friends and fans of one of Rock 'n' Rolls most underrated (& underpaid) songwriters. For those of you in a position to do so, any small donations towards the costs of the service and afterparty would be greatly appreciated. (Honest will of course pay you all back at the end at the end of the month ) Join us in person or via live stream (link to follow), at 3pm @ West London Crematorium for a sing along to a few HJP classics from his time with The Boys, The Crybabys & more, plus the odd story that I'm sure many of you will have heard HJP recite himself at some point (each story evolving over time, as was his way ). Then we'll be heading to the infamous Warrington Hotel, (a pub that should need no introduction) for a proper knees up! Born John Splain in Leeds, Yorkshire, Honest John Plain appeared on all five of The Boys' studio albums, from their self-titled debut in 1977 to 2014's Punk Rock Menopause, their comeback after 34 years away. He also released a wealth of solo material and had ties to the likes of Ian Hunter on the 1995 album Dirty Laundry, Ronnie Wood (via The Dirty Strangers), The Crybabys, The Lurkers, The Yobs, Casino Steel, London SS, The Manish Boys, The Last Rock 'N' Roll Band, and The Landslide Ladies. He also played drums in the early incarnation of Generation X. His songs were covered by Hanoi Rocks and Manic Street Preachers. Plain will be remembered not only for his music, but also for his humility and unswerving dedication to to the punk scene and its ideals. Although he never became properly famous, his influence spread far and wide. "John was an outstanding musician, songwriter and singer", said a statement from The Boys. "His world-class rhythm guitar was the backbone of The Boys sound. He will be greatly missed by all"
