Honcho Campout Queer Fam Fund 2021

The success of Honcho Campout over the past few years compelled us to invest in new ways to ensure the event is as intersectional and diverse as the queer community at large. In 2018 the Queer Fam Fund (QFF), a fundraising and outreach program, was created to prioritize the marginalized and underrepresented, namely: Black people, people of color, and trans and non-binary people. This philanthropic effort, subsidized entirely by donations, extends a free Campout experience to members of these communities so that they may enjoy the festival free of financial strain. In its inaugural year, every applicant, 22 in total, was invited to join the festivities. In 2019, thanks to the generosity of donors, we upped that number to 30!

The QFF continues this year to further make good on its original goal: to ensure that Campout meaningfully serves the diversified queer community. Our 2021 goal is 65 recipients and we’re confident we’ll be successful! We are proud to be able to open doors and create opportunities for others, especially after a year of such hardship and financial strain, and we are excited to expand on what we’ve established.

Other than this gofundme, The QFF is financed by two other sources:

- Ten dollars from every ticket sale
- Donations during Check-out: When purchasing your ticket you will have the opportunity to make a contribution.

If you are interested in applying to the Queer Fam Fund more details about what is covered and how to apply are below:

Ticket to Campout for all chosen recipients (this is Honcho's contribution to the fund). We will also cover the $65.00 Four Quarters fee that every camper is required to pay.

Travel Stipend (varies): This will be used to cover travel costs (bus ticket, portion of an airline ticket, gas money, etc.). We understand that everyone has different circumstances, we will try to accommodate everyone as best as possible. We are currently researching charter bus services from a few major cities that will transport campers to Four Quarters.

Meal Plan: The meal plan includes brunch and dinner, Thursday thru Sunday. Both meat and veggie options will be available; special diets are taken into consideration.

Camping Gear: Basic Camping Package from Outdoors Geek is provided which includes a two-person tent, 2 sleeping bags, and 2 sleeping pads. All tents and equipment are set up upon your arrival. Please note that camping gear is optional, you are welcome to use your own.
Taking into consideration our intention is to shape the queer landscape of Campout, the QFF is done with genuine consideration for inclusivity. We are at our best when we are intentional and inclusive — meaningfully serving our community by lifting each other up. Aiming for diversity and giving space to trans, non-binary, and POC is an important first step, but it is vitally important to move beyond words and take meaningful action!

Full vaccinations will be required to attend camp this year. A vaccinated crowd at Campout is essential to bringing this weekend back to life in a form that feels correct. As of now, vaccinations are open to all US adults for free, so we encourage everyone to get ahead of things and schedule an appointment if they haven’t already done so. The latest date to become fully vaccinated in time to be eligible for Campout is August 4, 2021. Click here to read our entire COVID-19 plan and more about the reasons and research behind our vaccination mandate.

This year we are also planning major upgrades in health and wellness across all aspects of the festival. It’s been a hard year, and we realize that folks will be coming into this thing in a different head space than before. We are looking at a variety of ideas to meet folks where they are: 

- More wellness staff at more locations on site

- Increased visibility and availability of water 

- Expanding non-alcoholic bar offerings

- Increased emphasis on talks and other non-party activities

You must complete an application (https://www.honchocampout.com/qff) if you are interested in attending Campout via the QFF. The identity of those who are selected will be kept confidential. All entries must be submitted by May 31, 2021 and if you are selected you will be notified mid June. If you are a previous recipient, you are more than welcome to apply again. Also: we can only accept people located in the United States this year. To our international friends: we will open QFF up to you again in 2022, we promise.
