Home lost in BC wildfires

On August 17, 2023 my cousin, her fiancé, my Aunty and Uncle’s lives were flipped upside down and changed forever. They were evacuated from their home due to the McDougall Creek Wild fire in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. Leaving felt precautionary and as though they would be back once things were back under control. They grabbed whatever immediate things they thought they needed or were important. Not fully grasping many of the other important items, documents, and momentums they were leaving behind.

On August 19 we were informed that their houses were destroyed by the fire. Everything completely disintegrated.

They are facing a long road ahead with many unknowns. They have been advised to find living arrangements for up to and for potentially longer than a year. My cousin Aimee and her fiancé Burke were suppose to be getting married next summer. My Aunty who was just accepted for a hip replacement surgery after years of waiting. All of these things now to be considered with no homestead available.

We have not listed a goal dollar amount as any donations are helpful. Although everything is gone, their bills are not. No more home does not mean no more bills. Despite losing everything, those monthly bills remain. In addition to maintaining the regular monthly bills, they now have to add the cost of finding new living arrangements, buying new clothes, replenish day to day hygiene products, toiletries, regular household products, etc…, as well as the costs and loop holes associated to replacing all lost identity documents. Of course over time insurance will help with the loss of their home itself but it will not replace many of the unforeseen losses. It is not an immediate help to them either.

We are creating this GoFund me as a support to them currently and over the next year as they try to plan their feet again. They are the kindest, most loving, giving family I know and if the tides were turned, they would do the same for anyone else. We love them dearly. All funds will go directly from this GoFundMe account to their family who have been set up as a beneficiary, to be used as they need along the way.
