'Homes' Afghan resettlement documentary
The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy and the Arts, Inc., has organized a team that is doing a documentary about the Wisconsin resettlement of Afghan refugees. We'll be documenting feelings of the general population, community leaders, former refugees, resettlement organizers, Afghanistan veterans, and -- most importantly -- the refugees from Afghanistan.
The Homes project will work to help people understand feelings about homes the refugees left and seek, and about the feelings people have about their own homes as the refugees resettle in Wisconsin.
This is not a news story. Instead, it's an educational documentary that will be followed through several years and archived primarily at The Highground Veterans Memorial Park near Neillsville, WI, and be disseminated through a variety of media.
The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy and the Arts, Inc., is based at Osseo, WI, and founded in 2001 as a 501(c)3 foundation with the mission of helping people tell their stories through writing and arts.
Work already is under way on the Homes project, which has a starting budget of $122,000 to cover travel and lodging, administrative costs, equipment costs, and compensation for services. Please consider a donation, and please share this link widely.
