My name is Lester Van Huss. Never in my life would I have thought I would face a decision like the one I now face. My friend, who is handicapped: confined to a wheelchair, and I, of over 20 years being together are losing our home. I am 66 and my roommate and friend is 56. This is due to the landlord wanting us to vacate so he can sell the house we live in. Unfortunately, I have lost my disability income last July, then had to stop my second job due to health issues of my own. At present we are barely making it on the income I have as his home health aide, but that will end this coming Friday (12/03/2021) since we have no place to go. To remain as his health care provider with pay, you have to maintain a residence. His SSDI income will be all we have left. My SS Retirement pay will not go into effect until mid-February of 2022. SS is sticking to their guns and was informed when they took my disability income away, the type of situation we would face. Needless to say, you cannot argue with our over-compassionate government that cares for its citizens so deeply. Now after several months of trying to find a place, costs have risen to the point that people in our situation are unable to afford housing. We cannot dump application fees after application fees down the drain and still go without a home. For anyone who sees this, we need help. All the money we will have on the 3rd of December will go towards a moving company to place all our belongings for storage and then the fee to store those belongings along with a car payment and insurance on the car. I do not know what else I can do but ask for help and hope someone understands and will help us either find a place to stay or help with financial assistance so we can at least maintain a roof over our head. God Bless anyone who sees this and is able to help
