Hello! For those who don't know me, my name is Zekiah Zyla (fka Peyton)
I’m a community and political organizer from Omaha, NE. For years, my work has been rooted in service; showing up for people, helping where I can, and doing my best to build something better for the communities around me. A lot of my life has been spent trying to support others through difficult times, offering what I could, and helping carry the weight wherever/whenever it was needed.
Unfortunately right now, I find myself in the tough position of needing that same support myself.
I’m currently facing an urgent housing crisis and have to move out of my current living arrangement by the end of April. I’m also trying to relocate with my friend and roommate, Stevie, who I brought up from Kansas City last October as he was facing a housing crisis of his own. We had recently applied for a 2-bed apartment, hoping it work out and provide stability, but we were denied due to my credit, leaving us with very little time and very few options to secure housing before the month's end.
At the moment, we're struggling to muster up funds to throw down on something convenient and safe. I’m currently 2 months unemployed from a stable job, and only have part-time campaign work keeping me afloat. Navigating this difficult financial stretch has been rough, embarrassing even. Not having the resources to secure stable housing is draining our mental health, and putting us at risk of homelessness.
To prevent our unhousing, we're reaching out and asking for help to raise $2,000 or more to help cover the costs of this upcoming transition and give ourselves a real chance to move through this chaos safely and with some stability.
Funds will go toward:
- Moving Truck (U-Haul)
- Securing a Safe and Stable Living Arrangement
- Storage & Moving Supplies
- Groceries
I don’t usually like asking for help unless I’ve exhausted every option I have to figure something out on my own. I’ve always tried to be the person who finds a way through, keeps things moving, and shows up for others however I can. But right now, I’m in a position where I can’t navigate this one alone, and I have to be honest enough to ask for support from my community.
If you’re able to donate, I cannot thank you enough! Every donation helps to create a little more breathing room and a more stable path ahead.
If donating isn’t possible, we'd be equally grateful if you shared our GoFundMe with others.
Thank you! However you choose help, THANK YOU!
