Twenty-one years is a long time. Day-by-day, time passes and we barely notice because Life always throws something else at us. For 21 years, my partner, Calvin, has rented this duplex townhouse. I've been here with him for six years. Calvin has been a school bus driver for 24 years. He's happy with his job and all the non-tangible rewards it comes with. Over the years, the kids he used to bring to school now send their kids on his bus. He doesn't make millions; he makes memories.
Due to reasons beyond most people's control, the house is being sold. We have six weeks, but have to move out by August 1. We have no savings, few options, and need more help than we can imagine. A lifetime of memories and possessions in a three bedroom house has to be downsized.
We need first months rent and security deposit wherever we end up. (And right now, we don't know where that will be.) We need moving supplies, a truck, movers, (we're both in our 50s), and might even need a storage unit.
Because of this unexpected happening, I am having to give up the Mission trip I've been volunteering with for 17 years. My heart breaks more than I can explain. But without a home myself, how can I help others.
Thank you for your time. I would spend the rest of my days repaying anyone who could help us.
Update 7/1: the house closed on 6/27 to investors owners. They have already demo'd the other side of the house to update and resell. We were served with official notice to vacate by 7/31.
We have rented a storage unit and continue to search for a new place to call home.
We are absolutely amazed and grateful for the support we've received for this plea. I know those who couldn't donate have shared this to spread the word. We appreciate that so much because it means you think we are good people worthy of assistance. Thank you for your continued support and love.
