We are a young and newly-engaged couple who lost everything due to the virus, including our homes, jobs, and even many personal possessions as we’ve had to sell as much as possible to make enough to live on. We managed to find refuge in a local extended-stay hotel and were able to afford it with the unemployment stimulus bonus, but now that that bonus has expired, our time here is running out. We both have attempted to apply to countless job positions in the area, but with no luck - most haven’t even returned a phone call. Our options are drying up, so starting this GoFundMe is a last resort that we have to utilize.
We became engaged March 14th, right when our town began shutting down. It was all very unexpected and we had no way to know that it would impact us so heavily. We were both working decent jobs at the local mall, but were furloughed until further notice (we last heard that we could possibly go back to work the second week of August, but here we are, still waiting). I, a 23-year-old, was living in an apartment while my now-fiancé, 30, had just lost his home days before. We were figuring out new living arrangements when my parents drove two hours out of their way to cancel my lease and kick me out because they felt I wasn’t responsible enough, despite the fact that I was always on time and usually early with all my payments. It was then that my fiancé and I found ourselves in the hotel.
At first, we had no idea what else to do. We waited to hear back about our jobs, but no news came. We applied to new jobs, but no one would contact us back. We decided that our goal is to move to either Washington state or Colorado so we can build our future together creating artwork, writing books, and growing our YouTube channel - it’s our dream to create fun and enjoyable content for everyone. But without the funds, we are stuck in a strange limbo where we can’t afford to leave and can’t afford to stay.
Our story must be similar to many others’ right now, with the deadly impact that COVID-19 has left on everyone mentally, physically, financially, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t need help. With your kind donation, you would be helping to save our lives and we would be one step closer to finding a safe place to finally call home.
