Hello, and happy Black History month!
My name is Asher, (muggle/birth name is Natasha)
I am a disabled black trans person in Portland and I am currently homeless with my partner and service pet, and living in a van with no heat.
Long story short, we got out of a tricky situation, I spent my entire disability check for the month on a vehicle to live in because I knew it was that or the sidewalk, and am still looking for viable solutions to our new, unexpected problems. Our whole lives but a couple bags of clothes and roughly 6 blankets are in storage.
I donate plasma when I can and other than that, make $842 a month in disability. These are my only sources of income; I don't work due to PTSD and other mental health problems. My partner works at the Moda Center where hours are scarce. As I type this they are on a 2 week 'break' (which happens frequently) because there are no available hours. They are still looking for a job that is a better fit but took this one on a whim to support our family.
My partner and I both became incredibly ill with a viral flu-like cold right at the pinnacle of the moving journey that consumed our lungs, throats AND finances as I am currently uninsured (long story but working to rectify the situation) we threw everything in storage and crossed our fingers.
As I mentioned, our van has no heat as well as multiple other functionality problems that cost more than I have to fix. Due to the heating problems and humidity of 3 beings occupying such a small space in the cold, everything including our clothes and blankets keep getting damp. I wasn't expecting this particular issue but we are doing our best to keep it from molding. I also need to insure my new vehicle and cover the complete cost of it before registering my new home/car in my name. This is my main concern because there is a deadline for putting the title in my name.
We are currently being allowed to chill outside/near a friends house who has generously offered their space to make food + bathroom to take care of necessities.
list of needs are as follows
-registration
-DEQ/emissions test
-pupper support (dog food, etc)
-$110 storage unit rent (due 1st of each month)
-car insurance (due before registration on March 1st)
-diagnostics and repairs to vehicle including lights, doors that don't open, and heat/AC
-cost of living/warm food/kicking the tail end of this cold in the bucket
-dehumidifier for my soggy living quarters til the heat works
-water + electricity use at friends house (showers, tea, big ol/ dehumidifier running for hours for example)
-gofundme fees
I am grateful to be on a mental health upswing during this transition and trying to keep myself optimistic. Its a relief to know that our new problems can largely be taken care of with a little fiscal support, so we appreciate any and every share, like, and donation, even if its just $1. No donation is too small and you'd really be doing us a great service even just hitting the share button!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through and even if you can't donate, we are asking for a little networking magic. Your friends may wanna help us!
blessings to you and your loved ones. your support will not go to waste!
