Homeless and Hurting and could use a little help!!!!
Hello,
My story actually started in August of 2023. My husband, Eddie, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer. Prior to this, everything was fine. We did handyman projects, and I worked full time. There was not an abundance of money coming in, but we were making it without any real issue. When Eddie was diagnosed, we started chemotherapy. I say we because I was his transportation, and his nurse. For those who have never had to deal with cancer (and I thank God for that, this is something I would hope you never have to), chemo is not only losing your hair, but the sickness, and damage, that goes along with it. Chemo damaged his kidneys to the point that he has to wear a catheter at all times. From hard physical labor all of his life, Eddie has required emergency spinal cord surgery and suffers from neuropathy and is a fall risk. Due to all of this, I have had to miss work due to chemo/doctors appointments. The final straw was when I was a victim of identity theft and was rendered penniless. We were in the final steps of eviction when they offered rather than court proceedings, we could just move and avoid that on our record. Friends offered sympathy and the few who offered help fell through. Eddie's medical issues block us from going to shelters (most are male only/female only) and most emergency housing prohibits our furbabies (we have 2 ferrets). What would normally be available has been taken up by the growing homeless and immigrant population that flooded the Boston area. We have been living in our car for a week now. I have already gone through the process of applying for programs, grants, and so far, none have happened. I know it is difficult for everyone right now, and it kills me to have to do this, to ask for help. Whether it is a roof over our heads (a bed and shower would be divine), or whatever can be spared, it would be appreciated. Thank you for reading this!
