Homegoing Support for Simone Bresi-Ando
On Tuesday, January 5th, our beloved Simone Bresi-Ando transitioned from our realm leaving behind a wave of shock and sadness across the world. We are saddened by her departure, but are all blessed by having known her and the wisdom she leaves behind. As the creator of the world's first Adinkra oracle cards, Simone's legacy is cemented in our hearts and minds. She loved Black people and especially Black girls and women fiercely and Tools for Living BA was her love letter to us.
As many of you know, Simone was a South London girl (shoutout to Catford!), so the most pressing of details is to return her body back to her family and then close up her home in New York. A small team of friends in the U.S. (Risikat, Andrea, Anita, China and Evelyn) is working with the family to ensure that things are taken care of and this is where we need your help.
The funds will be deposited in the personal account of the organizer Risikat Okedeyi (friend of Simone), who has been given permission by Joanna Bresi-Ando (Simone's sister) to take care of the following expenses:
We are raising funds to cover the funerary and travel costs of Simone's body back to the UK, any outstanding medical expenses, probate attorney fees and estate related expenses, the care and upkeep of Bowie (Simone's dog), and shipping and/or storage costs for her personal effects.
This will allow her family time to focus on what is most important-grieving their loss. Once all of Simone's U.S. expenses are taken care of, Joanna Bresi-Ando (Simone' sister) will be made the beneficiary of this campaign and receive the remaining funds on behalf of the family for their use as they see fit.
As Simone's village, we know how important love and support were to her and we know that the outpouring of love that has happened in the wake of her passing is nothing but a testament to how our sister lived.
