Homegoing Celebration for LaKeisha Pollard

Donation protected
Hi, my sister, LaKeisha Pollard, had been in the ICU since July 29, 2022 before she went home to be with the Lord on June 27, 2023- a little over a month after her 44th birthday. She was suffering from end stage renal disease; and she was hospitalized last year when she unexpectedly stopped breathing and lost oxygen to her brain. She fought a long time and went from using a ventilator and not having any reaction to breathing on her own and opening and closing her eyes- especially when you said her name. We knew it would take a miracle for her to return to any semblance of normalcy, but we knew she wanted to fight for healing until she couldn’t fight anymore. And that’s what she did. She became disabled before the school year started and we found out yesterday that made her ineligible for the benefits we thought she had. So we are setting up this GoFundMe to get support in giving her a memorial service and will put any extra funds into an account that Justin can access when he turns 18 to use for college. For those of you who may not have known her personally, LaKeisha was a single mom with one teenaged son named Justin, who’s 14 years old. He was definitely her pride and joy and they had an extremely close knit relationship. LaKeisha lost her own parents at an early age herself (father at 2 and mother at 13); and not being here for Justin was definitely the hardest thing for her to know was a possibility when she began to experience health challenges. LaKeisha loved to laugh and you’d catch her either watching comedies or thrillers on Netflix. She was two classes shy of a Master’s degree in Education and was nominated several times as an exemplary educator through the Heart of Education award program. Being a teacher was her lifelong dream and she taught elementary and middle school for over 15 years. She loved the Lord and had scriptures posted all over the walls of her home. She had a heart of gold and would give her very last, including the clothes off her back, to those she loved. She will be dearly missed by her son, siblings, family and friends- and all the students and families lived she touched. We thank you in advance for all you do on her and her son’s behalf-no matter how big or small-prayers, calls, texts, posts, cards, financial contributions, everything counts. LaKeisha passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada, but most of her family and friends are in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan; so her celebration of life will be held in Detroit.

I just wanted to profusely thank everyone who has contributed, prayed, texted, called, emailed, etc. everything means so much and I cannot thank you all enough.
