Max's Disabled Bathroom Adaptation

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Kelly and I'm a full-time carer for my 13 year old son Max. He has a life threatening illness called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, this is a rare genetic condition. I have been fighting since 2009 to get my son a bathroom which will be accessible to him, I have had to give him bed baths because I cannot lift him into normal facilities.

This is a basic need for my son, he needs his dignity but social services and local councils refuse to help me with his basic needs to survive. It shouldn't have taken this long to get my son a bathroom accessible to him. He is entering teenage life and needs to have a life of his own without being embarrassed and humiliated because his own family has to bathe him.

Our family has suffered greatly because of the lack of support, we've had to move houses many times but we still won't get the help we need. This is a last resort that it shouldn't have come to but we need this help now as he could be permanently stuck in his wheelchair any time now and we can't run the risk of not being able to look after him.

This way of life is no way to live for Max, me and my daughter Alex. We've suffered enough and this is a priority. Any help you can give us would be much appreciated. We're not sure how much it will cost to get all the equipment Max needs but probably somewhere north of £5000

Kind regards, Kelly.
