Hi, my name is Wesley. I'm an Army Combat Veteran and Father of 4 children. Very recently, my 3 oldest children (twin 12 year olds & 10 year old) were left home alone for 24hours by their mother during Hurricane Ida. Thankfully, one of my children's neighbors contacted authorities - who discovered the children alone at home with no power - and many of their farm animals in the home to shelter from the storm. Once I was notified of this incident, I rushed home from my truck driving job in West Texas and was eventually awarded custody of my children.
My children's mother was a public high school teacher - and many years ago she decided to disenroll the kids from public school and teach them at home. The twins are supposed to be in 7th grade and their younger sister is supposed to be in the 5th grade. Once I was awarded custody, I took the children to be assessed for placement in the public school system - one of the twins tested on a 5th grade level, the other on a 4th grade level, and their sister tested on a Kindergarten level.

Unfortunately, it seems as though the public school system does not have an adequate program set-up to help catch my kids up to grade level. I have done quite a bit of research, and have determined the best way to help catch my children up to grade level - and give them a fighting chance at a decent education is to enroll them in the Abeka Homeschool system. I have spoken to the very nice people at Abeka, and have a custom setup in place for my kids needs - however, it is costly.
Fortunately, my employer is shifting my base of operations from West Texas to near my hometown in Louisiana, so that I can be home with my kids - there is an associated drop in my hourly pay - so it's awesome to be able to be there with and for my kids, but it will cause a bit of a strain on our household finances. Also, to ensure that homeschooling through Abeka is successful, my wife is going to leave her job in order to stay home with all 4 of the kids and keep them on task - and help them with their individual areas of focus.
Long story short - my kids education has not been made a priority by their mother over the years. I finally have the ability to make the pertinent decisions regarding my children's upbringing - however, at this point, they are quite a ways behind the 8-ball and this entire situation is putting a strain on us financially.
We understand that with God's grace, some patience, and a whole lot of love that things are going to work out in the end. We are hopeful that some of you will lend a helping hand to set-off my children's academic journey and help them learn and grow at an accelerated pace to catch them up to their peers.
Thanks for reading - and thank you in advance for lending a helping hand!
