Dear Family and friends, this is tough to write down so I'm going to try to keep it simple. My name is Nick Diaz I work at the Grove House and live in Mariposa, I moved here about 4 years ago, I was a complete stranger to this place, but I found a sense of community living here, which made me want to stay. Friday the 22nd of July at around 2 pm the oak fire started near my cabin in Mariposa, by 3 pm I had started packing up my most important belongings and getting ready in case I had to leave, by 4 pm I knew the fire wasn't gonna stop and was increasing speed towards my property, at this point a sheriff had arrived to my spot to tell me so I had to go and had very little time, I had that gut feeling that was telling me this is all real! By 5 pm I had finally gotten everything out, and as I turned back at my home and all the work that's been cultivated there, having our own little slice of heaven up there, I see a plume of black smoke. at that moment I knew it was real, I had watched as my property was starting to get consumed by 100-foot flames. I'm writing this post because I am not the one to ask for help, but I can't do this alone as much as I want to. I'm asking for any donations to eventually start rebuilding and get me and my dog a roof again. I'm not gonna lie to you it still doesn't even feel real. I appreciate everyone who reached out to make sure I was ok, I appreciate the people who are there for me now, who helped get my stuff out, who are giving me food, and a roof over my head. I'm forever grateful for all these amazing people here in mariposa county the love is incredible. stay safe out there yall ❤️ #Oakfire
