Gas explosion destroys home and grandfather dead

Join us in supporting the Bussi-Escobar family who are devasted after the tragic loss of their beloved 97-year-old grandfather and their multi-generational home in a devastating gas explosion on May 30, 2023 in the Almirante Brown district of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The grandfather, Celestino Bussi, suffered extensive burns on over 60 percent of his body and passed away in hospital shortly after the explosion. Celestino lived with his son, Jorge and daughter-in-law, Nelly, as well as his granddaughter, Caroline, and his great-grandson, Tiziano—all of whom, along with losing their grandfather, have also lost their home. They are currently having to live in the wreckage of the house.

Celestino was known for his kindness, wisdom, and profound love for his family, whom he cared for his entire life. Celestino joins his late wife, Clara, and is survived by Jorge and his family, alongside his other two sons, Mario and Alberto and their families.

Jorge Bussi has been my close friend for over 60 years—we grew up together in Buenos Aires and maintained contact despite moving across the world from each other.

Any contribution will support this incredibly deserving family in working to navigate through both the profound loss of their grandfather and the daunting task of rebuilding their home. We are collecting funds on their behalf, which will be sent down to Argentina and go towards covering medical expenses, honouring their grandfather's memory with a dignified funeral, and assisting in the beginning stages of rebuilding their home.
