Home Health Care for Sean Mach

Donation protected
UPDATE: We are sad to share that Sean passed away on May 28 of a glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer. He fought a long, difficult battle and tried every treatment available to him - chemotherapies, radiation, and two drug trial treatments. Sean was able to receive excellent home care thanks to all the generous donors. Thank you to all who have supported Sean and his family.

Sean and his wife Jessica have two wonderful children (Wyatt, 3, and Zoey, 19 months) and could use a helping hand. Sean is a caring husband, father, and friend with a dry sense of humor. Outside of his family and friends, his loves are Star Wars and the Seahawks. He met his wife Jessica in Pasadena, CA, while working for a subcontractor of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as an astronautical engineer.  Among many valuable projects he took on during his career, he contributed his talents toward the development of the Mars Curiosity Rover. Sean and Jessica are facing an incredible challenge as he battles brain cancer. We hope to do our part to support them by covering the cost of home health care with this fundraiser.

Sean’s Journey

In July 2016 Sean was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and underwent a successful surgery, followed by a year of radiation and chemo. He was doing well until scans indicated he needed another surgery in November 2017. The result of that surgery showed that the tumor had spread, and immunotherapy medication was required. After his round of immunotherapy, he resumed Avastin IV treatments, and he continues to fight hard every day while performing well on neurological tests.

Why Help is Needed Now

In April 2018 Sean started experiencing extreme muscle weakness.  He needs help with eating, communication, and mobility. He maintains full comprehension and is choosing to fight by continuing his weekly Avastin IV treatments at University of Washington Medical Center. To ensure Sean receives the care he needs and to keep him safe, his wife Jessica needs to rely on home health care workers 12 hours a day. This care is not covered by insurance.
