To my friends and family. After much self-confliction, James and I have come to the decision that we must lay our pride aside and come to all of you for help. Asking for help is not something that comes easy to us, especially me, but for the sake of my Grandson's future we feel we are at a point of no other option.
Some of you know our struggles regarding our fight to provide our Grandson, Lucas, a safe, stable, and loving home - and others do not. Allow me to share in highlights of a timeline to create the story:
· July 2014 -Bree (My oldest daughter) and Tyler (Biological Father) began using Heroin shortly after Lucas was born.
· In May 2016, our oldest Granddaughter, Rylee, was removed by DSHS from her Mom, Bree. Rylee was placed in the custody of her biological Father. Both siblings while in Bree’s custody were consistently exposed to domestic violence as Tyler was physically and emotionally abusive to Bree.
· January 2016 – Lucas’s parents were evicted from their apartment and moved in with Tyler’s mother.
· May 212016 – Luca’s parents never returned home. They abandoned Lucas, left him with his Paternal Grandmother without so much as a word of explanation.
· July 2016 - Paternal Grandmother’s is financially unstable enough to provide the care and nurturing environment Lucas required. – Paternal Grandmother gave over the care of Lucas to James and myself.
· August 2016 – We retained an attorney to seek Non-Parental custody to ensure that Lucas legally remained in our care - a safe, stable, and loving environment.
What we had hoped was going to be a simple custody case as Lucas’ mother hadn’t been heard from since June of 2016 and Lucas’s Father showed no interest in Lucas or his parental time. However, that has not been the case…the recent court hearing, Lucas’s Father showed up at stated that he would be fighting for his parental rights.
February 8, 2017 – Tyler was court ordered to do random UA testing, drug & alcohol assessment, and follow whatever is recommended. To date, Tyler has not followed that court order. So, the fight continues for Lucas’s well-being…longer than we anticipated for legal fees. I'm sure most of you well know and understand the cost associated with even uncontested custody battles, let alone a contested one. Over the duration of it we have payed thousands of dollars in attorney fees. We have reached the end of all our resources to continue to afford our legal fees. Sacrifices that been made not only from James and I, but even from our own two boys to keep Lucas safe.
For Lucas’s entire life, James and I have done everything and anything we could to support and ensure the best possible future for not only Lucas, but our own children – who are 9 and 11 years old boys. Our children and grandchildren mean more to us than anything in this world. They are our reason for breathing and my purpose on this surface! The task of raising them has never been an easy one, especially having to stand by and watch the neglect of your grandchildren, but we gladly accept the blessings of our children and grandchildren.
As I've stated, asking for help is a very hard thing for us, for me to do, but I'm at a loss and this fight calls for enthusing all possible resources. I'm asking of you my friends and family, that if you can, and only if you can, if you can find it in your hearts to help us out. Any amount whatsoever will be more appreciated than I can ever express! Even Five dollars can go a long way to helping me reach the amount needed to get me through these dire times. Every single dollar that I raise will go towards our attorney fees associated with my custody battle and nothing else. That is my word and it is gold!
We will never know how to adequately thank those that can help me but please know that the gratitude and appreciation I will have for you helping me keep my daughter safe will be of the upmost!
