My name is Leigh. I want to help my brother Ian. Hurricane Florence left Ian’s home 2/3rds under water. The drone video shows the severe flooding in his Town Creek neighborhood Stoney Creek Plantation, which is just outside of Wilmington, NC.
Ian shares his home with his girlfriend Charlotte. They heeded the evacuation notices ahead of the storm – packed up her SUV with a few clothes, key possessions, and their two dogs. They went to hunker down in Georgia. They waited, worryied, and wondered what was next.
One thing was certain – the house and everything in it were ruined. Sure. It is just "stuff" – after all, they have each other. Indeed, even under these circumstances, they have remained incredibly positive throughout this whole ordeal. But, in the end, that home represents everything my brother has worked so hard for. It's all lost.
Ian and Charlotte are strong individuals and are even stronger together. As many of you know, they regularly compete in endurance and extreme obstacle races. They have both the physical and mental strength to push themselves onward. As such, I am quite sure they will apply a similar “race day” mindset to their current post-hurricane situation as a way to push themselves through this set back – one obstacle at a time.
Certainly, I know Ian and Charlotte are just one family of many who are impacted by this significant flooding. Their neighbors, and nearby communities face the same, long process of trying to move forward and help one another.
But, I live far away in Northern Virginia. As his sister, setting up this Go Fund Me page is one small way I can try to help them so that a little extra help and hope can go directly to them. Any assistance you can provide to help them on their long journey out of this mess would really mean a lot.
This is not a scam. It is simply a way to help get them some much needed funds to help them get back on their feet.

Ian Smythe is my brother; Charlotte is his girlfriend. I undertook this humble effort to raise a little bit of extra money to help them recover post-Florence. They live in a subdivision near Leland/Town Creek, NC, area, which severely flooded as you can see in the picture and video.
How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)
Ian and Charlotte lost everything in their home, including my brother's car. They will need to spend the money on supplies to get them back on their feet - clothes, food, temporary housing, cleaning supplies, etc.
