Tuesday, 9/10/19, severe thunderstorms and flooding impacted the Red Wing, MN community. Steve was awoken at 4:15am from a loud noise. He went to see what was happening outside and saw his car floating down his driveway. He was able to tie his car up to an outside pole using an extension cord he had nearby but his garage had been flooded to 25 inches and his only vehicle is no longer operational.
Steve then heard a large crash and crunch which he later learned was his basement windows breaking in. The pictures below show Steve's basement flooded to the floor joists and the 2 inches of mud that remain after the water subsided. Since Steve does not carry flood insurance and the water entered through his windows rather than up through the sewage pipes his homeowners insurance will not cover any of the damages.
Steve's wife was also recently released from weeks of medical treatment and they were just celebrating her recent recovery and hospital release and looking forward to Steve's own knee surgery scheduled for 10/31/19 and were hit with this tragedy that they themselves are not likely physically able to clean up and recover from.
The basement contained his furnace (necessary in MN weather!), AC, water heater, water softener, and was fully finished and furnished. He has lost family heirlooms and memories that are not replaceable but please help Steve and his wife with what can be replaced.
