What Happened: On September, 27th, 2024, Hurricane Helene dropped 20" of rain on Boone NC, in Western North Carolina. A large 8' tree root slid down the mountain behind the house and slammed into the back corner, twisting it 15°, and pushing it off the foundation about 30'. It is sliding down the hill. No Landslide Insurance!
Where: 936 Friendship Church Road, Boone, NC 28607.
Who Are We: Retired Homeowners, Meta Gatschenberger, RN (62) and Scott Richardson (66). This was our Full Time Home.
Recovery Plan: In March 2025, Samaritan's Purse offered to build a 2 bedroom/1 bath cottage, but we had to purchase a lot.
