Home Care for Luis Olay
Donation protected
Hello everyone. I need help for my dad’s care funds.
Luis Olay, my dad, was born in 1936 in Mexico City. Growing up, he would tell me everything he did as a young man. He would always tell me his stories, and I would always look at him like are you sure that really happened. Once, he told me he trained to be a wrestler. During his first match, his opponent slammed him on the canvas, and he didn’t like it, so he just left the match and never wrestled again. I wrote a paper in grad school about el cinturon, the belt. My dad could do anything with his almighty belt. He could tie stuff together, carry packages, close a broken hood, and so on. El cinturon taught me perseverance, just because something is hard doesn’t mean you can’t overcome it. No? Como no!
Today we are facing some pretty hard challenges. He has had 5 heart attacks, yes 5, a stroke, and a hard fall that injured his head which affected his cognitive abilities. At some point, we thought his time had come for him to pass. That was not the case, and he has recovered substantially but still has much recovery to do. He requires 24-hour care. He also suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s. We have tried to navigate the Medicaid system, and we have encountered a lot of bureaucratic challenges. His application was denied. We haven’t given up on it, but we are running out of money to get the help he needs. We have two wonderful caretakers, helping him, my sister, and myself.
I want to ask you if you could help us collect funds for his care, We would greatly appreciate it, and my dad would benefit immensely.
Our goal is to raise $25,000. His weekly expense to have his care is about $1,000/week. He has two home caretakers are paid $15/hour and work about 30 hrs. each, which is about 60 hours and a week has 168 hours. My sister and I are also dedicating time care for him, about 40 hours a week each on top of working 40 hours at our jobs, Home care alone is about $3,600 per month. He has food, insurance, and rent expense as well. That comes close to $5000/month.
If you have the ability to donate something, please do, if I can work for your donation, I will, and of course,
I understand that we all have struggles, and if you can’t donate, please keep us in your thoughts so we get the care my dad needs. You can send donations here.
