Covid 19 Impacted Grandmother and Family

Donation protected
After over 2 months of hospitalization and ICU isolation with severe COVID-19 in Lexington, Kentucky, Paula... (also known as Gollygam and Tootsie) mother to Heather and Nat Parrish, wife to Gorman, and grandmother to three young children, is finally coming home! Paula has fought so hard, didn’t give up, and miraculously survived this horrific virus. She is very slowly improving on many different levels... but this illness and isolation have taken their toll and caused serious medical issues. The extent of the damage isn't entirely known yet but she continues to fight.

There were battles with Medicare and she was nearly sent to a nursing home where she'd continue to be isolated and not receive the intense therapy and rehab she still needs. Her daughter Heather is doing family training to be her primary caregiver while also providing care for her Dad (who is a cancer survivor and also recovering from Covid damage along with other serious medical diagnoses) in addition to being a single mother and sole parent to her 10-year-old son who is currently doing remote schooling from home.

Heather is still dealing with the physical and mental effects of her own Covid battle while doing all of this and is actively seeking medical and psychological care for herself as well. Their family is rushing to prepare and convert the house, install a ramp, sanitize and organize rooms & garage, get whatever medical equipment Medicare isn’t covering, and prepare the bathrooms and a shower for continued home health care and therapies. They have been told that this will be a very long term recovery and that rehabilitation is going to continue for Paula in the home. She still requires oxygen and physical assistance in every way. It is unclear as of yet what medical supplies Medicare will ultimately cover and their financial concerns are growing as the costs and bills have already begun to accumulate. What IS clear is that the Parrish family will be very financially strained until everyone is healthy enough at home for Heather to return to work.

If you are able, please consider providing a little peace of mind to a family whose life was turned upside down and whose only goal is to be together in health.
