My youngest child Maiya Newsome and her
boyfriend Cris Avina lost their home, all their possessions, their car, and anything else they
did not wear when they were evacuated on
Tuesday August 18, 2020 from the Wallbridge Fire.
They brought their two dogs “Turtle and Onyx and a special lizard with them when they
evacuated their beautiful Mill Creek Road
home of several years.
Their beloved cat “Chance” was missing and
could not be found. Not to be deterred from
finding orange cutie “Chance”, Maiya and Cris
went back that night at 10:00pm and
convinced the police officer guarding their
road “with orders to refuse entrance” that
Chance had to be home and they had to save
him from any danger.
Happily Chance was found sad and scared.
He came to my house for an undetermined
stay cation.
The next day, Wednesday August 19, these
two kids heard the news, while working at the Windsor Olivers, that the Wallbridge fire had
taken their home and all their possessions.
Maiya lost her mannequin for clothing
construction, her professional sewing
machine, fabric, etc. on the cusp of her
earning two certificates in Fashion
Merchandising and Fashion Design at
Santa Rosa Junior College.
Cris and Maiya lost all their culinary knives
and cooking pots, pans, etc from their
cooking careers.
They had a beautiful vegetable garden in full
harvest, a large dog enclosure with 2
dog homes (they had built with Maiya’s
brother John) and these are no more.
Recently my husband and I had loaned them a refrigerator (theirs died) and a washer which
are only memories.
Cris and Maiya lost many art supplies and
pieces they had created as well as personal
pictures and a few jewelry items.
It is just stuff, and many of us have too much,
but Maiya and Cris lived simply and lived as
healthy as possible.
Anything that would be used in a home, or
clothing for Maiya and Cris, referrals for a
rental home (that takes pets), a car that
you don’t need and of course cash or gift cards
would be a blessing to this hard working
young couple who love their family and
friends and their pets more than anything.
Any help is welcome and we will keep you
updated with their progress.
Maiya and Cris had many friends stay with
them when they needed a place for shelter.
Now we all can return the love they have
shared with so many of us.
Thank You in advance,
Roberta L Evans Newsome (mom),
David Bakaleinikoff (stepdad),
Maiya’s sister Melody Anderson,
and her brothers John and Jeff Newsome
all appreciate any help you wish to offer.
