Holly was involved in an auto accident on January, 6th, 2 days after her birthday. She went head on into a semi and she came off worse. She was taken to Bethesda North where they identified a severely broken tibia & fibula (lower leg), a break in the femural head, damage to her pelvis, broken ribs, a broken clavicle and a broken vertebra, plus numerous bruises.
Due to the amount of trauma, the medical team air-lifted her to University of Cincinnati Hospital. Since arriving at University, she had had two surgeries, one to repair her lower leg, with a rod, multiple plates and numerous screws, and insert two pins into top of the femur to stabilize the ball. The second surgery was to repair the clavicle by placing a plate and screws to hold it together.
She is recovering well from the surgeries, but as you can imagine she has a long way to full recovery. She will not be able to bear weight on her left leg or left arm for 10 to 12 weeks and will therefore require a lot of physical therapy to build up her muscle strength and get her mobile with those restrictions.
Her next step is rehabilitation at the Health South Rehabilitation Hospital at Drake in Cincinnati, Ohio. This will probably entail a one to two weeks stay. Not sure of the exact length of time she will be there. After that, she will come home and continue rehabilitation at home.
Holly does have medical insurance, but we do not know how much of the total expense this will cover. Obviously, she cannot work as her pastry chef position requires her to be on her feet all day. Any funds raised will be used to pay these medical expenses.
The suggestion of setting up a GofundMe page was mentioned. Holly was overwhelmed with gratitude when this was suggested. As with anything, please do what you feel is important to you. Just knowing that you care is also appreciated. Lots of people have wanted to help and this will be a great way to help her. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers at this time.
