In December, DJ and I adopted the absolute sweetest dog we've every met. Her name is Holly. Holly is a Great Pyrenees mix with quite a story.
Holly was found just outside of Dallas, TX in a ditch with two broken front legs and nursing four puppies. She was assumed to have been hit by a car. Great Pyrenees Rescue Society found her, and got her patched up to the tune of approximately $7000. She weaned all four of her Great Pyr pups and underwent some serious surgeries to put plates in each of her front legs. This all took place in June 2019. She suffered complications, illness and struggle as a result, but her bones healed following the initial surgeries.
Fast forward to now, Holly has been suffering from two open wounds - one on her left foot and one on her right leg. We took her to a veterinary orthopedist who has discovered the broken bones in her left toes were splintered and now are pushing against her pad to cause an open wound. Because she is walking, it won't heal. The second wound is a result of the plate (secured with screws and cerclage wire), which is too close to the skin and rubbing her leg raw from the inside out.
She has every reason to fear/dislike human beings with all she has been through, and she is certainly a little skittish and shy, but once she warms up she is just full of love to give. With all this sweet girl has been through she deserves a chance at a full and healthy life.
