A life saved, and the aftermath - Holly Combs

You may not think you know Holly Combs, but you've likely seen the YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL murals and installations in and around Indianapolis that she and I, her husband, Dave, have created. We have touched thousands of people's lives and installed or painted more than 100 murals and installations throughout Indiana.

Holly's always been known to run into a situation when others would run away. In this case, she ran after and prevented a child from running into oncoming traffic in a busy city street. Had Holly not acted, the child would have very likely been run over by a city bus. Thankfully, the child was uninjured and is living a happy life. After saving the child's life, Holly's had a rough year recovering from spinal surgery and now a shoulder surgery. Worker's compensation covered the spinal surgery expecting that to fix the problems. However, she still needed shoulder surgery which was NOT covered. She will have up to a year of therapy to recover mobility in her right shoulder. The high deductible insurance she carries has an out-of-pocket deductible of $6000. I am so proud of my wife Holly for saving the child's life, however, the financial burden on our family will be very great as I am transitioning jobs from full-time work to being a teaching artist. Holly works a 10-month position and will be unpaid during the months of June and July.
