Holly Reece is a wonderful 43 year old single mother of 2 boys, Jayden is 11 and Devin, who just turned 8. Their daddy died from complications from an accident 10/2017. Holly was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer in January 2019. She’s undergone 6 weeks of chemo, external radiation and internal radiation treatments. Holly was admitted to HVH with bowel impaction/obstruction caused by radiation treatments. She had surgery in May where they removed approximately 10” from small and large intestines, removed a fistula, were able to resection the small bowel and create a colostomy. The attempts to advance her diet were unsuccessful and no output in her colostomy and had yet another obstruction. Holly also has an abscess near her spleen and she has E. coli in the JP drainage. She’s still on IV antibiotics and TPN. She has received 10 units of blood throughout this. Her surgeon at HVH recommended a transfer to a more specialized colorectal surgeon at UVA. She was accepted there on 6/19 but we’re still waiting for a bed. She had currently been in the hospital for 8 weeks now.
