Holly Has Hope

Holly needs her village. Holly’s battle with breast cancer started nearly three years ago in April 2021. She was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. This form of the disease doesn’t have any of the receptors commonly found in breast cancer, making it difficult to treat. TNBC accounts for only 10-15% of cases of breast cancer and is the worst, most aggressive form of the disease. In 2021 her TNBC was treated successfully. However, in early November 2023 she found out the cancer has come back. She is now bravely facing stage 4 metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. Holly is a young, vibrant, beautiful woman. She is mothering 5 sweet children. She’s a wife, a sister, a cousin, a daughter, a granddaughter, a best friend, a mom, an aunt, a niece, so much to all of us. She is beloved. The news is tough, but so is she.

Holly's cancer journey has had many setbacks along the way. From receiving hard news from doctors too many times, to failed reconstruction surgeries and difficult infections. Yet she is courageously confronting new complications in order to gain more time with her children, husband, family, and friends to make more precious memories with them. Most recently Holly was found to have cancer in her lung and brain. In early November 2023, Holly had a drain placed in her lung so that she could remove the fluid building up in her lung from the cancer. In early December 2023, she had gamma knife radiation to treat the cancer in her brain. The next day she began chemotherapy with a newer drug called Trodelvy. Holly and her medical team are hopeful that her cancer will respond to this medication.

The purpose of this page is to request prayers for Holly, provide updates on Holly's story along the way, and to give a simple way to help out financially. If you feel inclined to donate, it would support with medical expenses, travel (gas/lodging) expenses to and from Sioux Falls for treatment, and possibly some could even go toward helping Holly make some amazing memories with her husband and kids.

***Update January 6, 2024***

Holly had been getting less and less fluid draining from her lung since starting her chemo treatments one month ago. Unfortunately, on Jan. 2, when trying to go for her 4th treatment, Holly had a fever, and had some tests done. It was determined that she had a staph infection in her lung, likely due to some areas of trapped fluid and the lung drain in addition to being on chemo. She was admitted to the hospital Jan. 4, and will undergo surgery today (Jan. 6) to hopefully clean out the lung by removing the fluid and infection and attempt to get some better function back in that lung. Following surgery, Holly's doctors have explained that she will be in the ICU in a medically induced coma with a breathing tube for at least the first 24 hours.

Please pray specifically for Holly and her family’s strength, the doctor’s good decision making, the surgeon’s excellent skills, and the medical team’s awesome care.
