Holly Cain's Second Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
My best friend Holly Cain, who is a well known sportswriter in the Tampa, Dallas and Seattle newspaper markets and has been a part of the American motorsports community covering major racing for 30-plus years, is once again battling aggressive cancer.

She’s recently been diagnosed with advanced head and neck cancer. She began seven full weeks of intense chemotherapy and radiation Monday, Jan. 29.
More than seven years ago, Holly fought late-stage breast cancer, enduring more than seven surgeries and a stroke. She has two children in college and is working full-time as a freelance writer. The cost and treatment for this cancer is exorbitant, while Holly’s health insurance offers only basic coverage.

Holly is the kindest, generous and most loving woman you could ever hope to meet. I met her more than 30 years ago in the Tampa Tribune sports department where we were both sportswriters. She was, and is, the light in the room. So, to see that light dim with devastating cancer once again, I want to exhaust every avenue to help her. She will soon run out of the financial resources she needs to wage this battle, with an endless stream of new bills to come. Like last time, the challenge of how to pay the next bill has become a daily worry for her. The 2024 motorsports season begins soon and it will be challenging for Holly in the early going covering the sport that has been her lifeblood for decades.

Holly is not one to ask for help in any way, and most of her friends are unaware how serious her medical condition has become. So, I am stepping in with the gracious support of the National Motorsports Press Association to create this opportunity for others to help.

Please help me and join the ranks of Holly’s army, stand with her and help her with these overwhelming medical bills and regular living expenses. I will manage the campaign, and every cent received will go to Holly. I’ve set the goal for $60,000, but that’s an initial goal as her bills will quickly exceed that. Thank you to the NMPA for its generosity in making the first donation.

Should you have any questions, please email me at [email redacted].
Thank you very much for your consideration.
