SYNOPSIS

Claire is a high school graduate who struggles with eating disorders, and she has a secret: she’s pregnant. Over the course of the film, Claire struggles as her eating habits get worse, her health declines, and she isolates herself from her friends and family. She eventually confides in her best friend, Andrea, who encourages her to seek help with her family. Will Claire attempt to get the help she needs, or has her eating disorder taken such a toll on her body that she’ll be unable to?

ARTIST'S STATEMENT - Christina Waterman (Writer and Director)

Being a filmmaker is a more recent dream for me. I was always interested in certain aspects of movies, particularly props and set design, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I discovered the cathartic process that was directing. With my thesis project, I hope to allow myself to heal. I have struggled with anorexia since I started college. Eating disorders like to stay quiet, but I’m going to bring it to the light in hopes of helping young women who struggle with similar issues. At its core, I believe filmmaking is something that helps people, and if I can just help one person by bringing my stories to life, then I will be satisfied. The recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was also a key influence for this film, as I personally cannot imagine the mental toll that a changing pregnant body would take on a person who struggles with their weight and self image. My intention with this project is not to change anyone’s mind when it comes to their stance on abortion and reproduction rights, I simply want to offer a story that will spark conversations about unwanted pregnancies, body dysmorphia, and mental health struggles. I want to create something that offers empathy for those who are suffering in silence.
