Hi everyone!
My name is Shemaya Bridgewater and I am a graduating senior Television and Film major, Computer Science minor at Howard University, from Trinidad and Tobago. As a filmmaker, I am enamored by stunning imagery found in what could be overlooked as the mundanity of the everyday, and I aim to invite viewers to pause and observe the small moments of life.
I have reached the thesis portion on my journey towards obtaining my degree, where I will be directing a short film I wrote entitled, 'Hollow'.
'Hollow' is a psychological drama about Sanai, a young woman who has mastered the art of survival. By day, she’s poised and sociable, effortlessly maintaining the illusion of normalcy, but by night, she spirals into compulsive binge eating, a silent attempt to fill the void left by her sister’s death. Trapped between these two versions of herself, she avoids confronting her grief until an unlikely bond and the consequences of her food addiction, force her to come to terms with her reality.
This story deals with grief and the maladaptive coping mechanisms we hide from the world.
With the funds raised, my production team and I intend to use them on:
-Equipment
-Rental fees for filming locations
-Set Design/Props
-Wardrobe
-Meals and craft services
-Transportation of equipment and cast/crew
-Post production needs such as sound design, editing, coloring etc.
This project means a lot to me and my team, and with your help we can successfully bring 'Hollow' to life!
Thank you!
