'The private eyes of DI' are an HBMS team of fabulous. hard working students. DI is about group work, competition, hands-on learning and problem-solving for students from elementary school through college. This year the group worked on a scientific challenge. The problem was, entitled 'Unlikely Attraction', where the group was asked to develop a story based on the notion of an amusement park ride in an unusual location. They wrote a story of a land where fun was outlawed, but where a spirited factory worker discovered a mixing bowl could hold the key to adventure and even fun. We watched in awe as they imagined and built a wooden stage that would rotate to reveal two different sets. They researched scientific methods including angular momentum, hydraulics, and centripetal force to find a way to develop these amazing scientific systems into their ride. Creating backdrops and costumes the team worked long hours to meet the challenge.
On Saturday, April 7th, our DI team from Hollis Brookline Middle School was overwhelmed with excitement when we won 2nd place in States for the Middle-Level Scientific Challenge!
Now, with an invitation to Global Finals in Knoxville, we have a chance to meet and compete with teams from all over the world! (15 countries will be represented) In order to go, we have to raise $5,000. That amount covers registration fees, housing, meals, and transportation plus all event costs. We need your help to get us there! Please consider helping us attend this once in a lifetime opportunity! Every donation big or small gets us one step closer to sending these hard-working kids to Global Finals in Knoxville. Thank you for your support.
