Holland's Path To A New Kidney

Donation protected
Hey, my name is Holland and I'm currently in stage 5 Kidney Disease (CKD, ESRD).

In August of 2024, I went to the doctor because I started to feel fatigued easily. This quickly escalated to being sent to the hospital.

After a couple of days there, I went home learning I had kidney disease and was most likely born with "spongy" kidneys.

Since the hospital stay, things have moved forward quickly. I picked up insurance because I knew things would need to get done.

In November, I had surgery to place a PD catheter in to do dialysis, but it didn't function. I then had a quick procedure to try to move it, but that didn't work. Then I had another procedure as they went back into my body and moved it. Next, I started dialysis training, and now I currently do dialysis at the house.

The next steps are preliminary tests to get on the kidney waiting list, and at this point, I've pulled out a loan for time missed off work already, used a credit card for the deposit on the first surgery, and accumulated medical debt as you can imagine.

I'm unaware of how many tests exactly need to get done before I can be on the list, but I know it's several. At this point, I'm also unaware of how much will be needed for a kidney.

So far, I'm $16,000 owed into multiple medical expenses, even with insurance. And I'm projecting another $10,000 BEFORE the cost of the transplant.

So, I've made a preliminary goal of $25,000 to start and fully expect more costs. Any help is greatly appreciated on my path to get a new kidney and to be able to remove myself from dialysis treatment. Thanks for your time and any donations.

Funds will be used required minimum payments on past bills, future bills, time missed from work, and ultimately a kidney transplant surgery.

UPDATE: As far as donations go, between everyone's AMAZING contributions and my own deposits from taxes we crossed over the $10,000 mark. Which honestly is crazy to me. I really appreciate it. With past medical bills not having interest charge and a credit card that has $2900 (hospital, $795 seperate bed for treatment) any donations now will help go pay towards that. With $10,000 i truly feel like this is a great milestone and an incredible head start for future expenses.

Expenses update since fundraiser

2/5/25: Heart Stress Test (Passed)
$600 paid (owe $2200 still, 5 hours off work)

2/27/25 $1000 towards Credit Card. For $2900 hospital deposit and $795 bed setup for nightly treatment.

3/2/25 $66 anesthesia bill paid off now.

3/25/25 $2900 (paid off credit card medical debt)

3/30/25 $2700 ( hospital called and got a huge discount offer on remaining balance that I couldn't pass up thanks to yall!)

April Update: After a surprise fundraiser (yes i cried like a baby) we got really close to our goal, ALSO got letter in mail and I'm officially waiting for a phone call for preliminary testings. Once these are done I go on the kidney waiting list!!! Time consuming for sure. Wanted to say thank you everyone, your donations are being used wisely in preparation for whats to come. Hopefully the sooner the better
