Holiday Love for Haveys -Eloise Takes on the World

If you're new here, welcome! We are Team Eloise, and we've been rallying around the Havey family since 2017 when Colleen and Adam's now 5-year old daughter was diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder called Alpers Syndrome.

Over the last four years, Alpers has taken this family on a journey full of twists and turns, ups and downs. After being told she wouldn't see her first birthday, Eloise has continued to beat the odds time after time and up until this summer, was relatively steady and stable.

On Labor Day weekend of this year, Colleen and Adam brought their talking, smiling, mobile daughter to Lurie's to explore some metabolic imbalances she was having. Since then, their world has been turned upside down, with Eloise experiencing significant medical setbacks over the last 3 months. What they thought might be a short sprint is turning out to be more like a marathon (but one in which you still need to keep a sprint-like pace.)

In the last three months, Eloise has endured a series of back-to-back major strokes and four weeks intubated on a ventilator. It is clear that when she eventually leaves the hospital, it will be with significantly more needs than when she came in, including acute home nursing care. Colleen and Adam are doing the best they can to adjust to their new realities of providing care for Eloise, but it's been incredibly difficult to navigate emotionally, logistically and financially.

As you can imagine, the Haveys continue to incur mounting and continued medical expenses for Eloise. With the holidays upon us, we know many of you like to send a little extra love this time of year. Team Eloise has never hesitated to rally around the Haveys when they need it, and this year and well into 2022, medical expenses and lifestyle changes will be challenging this family.

Anything you can give will go a long way:

- $10 goes toward a day of parking at the hospital
- $25 covers a copay for a medical appointment
- $65 pays for one hour of home healthcare, which they will need around the clock
- $100 can provide specialized medical equipment and supplies for her support at home

And perhaps most of all, it is extremely painful to have your child in the hospital during the holidays and feel like the rest of the world is passing you by. Please consider showing the Haveys that you are thinking of them during their fight this holiday season by making a donation, sending a note of love or sharing this with your network.

Happy holidays and thank you for your ongoing support. <3
