I learned this week that there is a single mom in my neighborhood/school community who cannot afford to buy a single gift for her children this year due to extreme financial strain. She is out of work on medical leave and her disability checks have stopped. Her last payment was a few hundred dollars in early November, but her landlord is graciously letting her stay until she can work again. She told me that she doesn’t speak up about her situation because she knows people have even less. I would really love to surprise her by raising money to help her pay off her debts until she can return to work. She is a kind, humble human. My family and friends are helping to fulfill her children’s holiday wish lists, and when I asked what she would like for herself this holiday season, she said that she didn’t know because she doesn’t ever think about herself.
