The holidays are a particularly difficult time for children with incarcerated parents. Many incarcerated mothers don't have the resources to get gifts for their children. Each year, your contribution helps provide what may be the only gift a child with an incarcerated parent may receive.
Hour Children, Children's Center located adjacent to the visiting room in the prison, provides a warm and welcoming space with toys and snacks for children to visit with their moms.
Because of restrictions on what gifts can be given and received inside of the facility, as well as the fact many children are not able to visit for a variety of reasons, we are raising money to purchase, wrap, and mail gifts that children request from their moms.
Each gift sent out will be accompanied by an age-appropriate book. Book donations are being collected by The Reading Room in Katonah and Scattered Books in Chappaqua.
Every gift is accompanied by a card handmade by their mom in Hour Children's bi-weekly card shop in the prison, where we provide all the materials for moms to customize cards for their children. It's so important that the gift is from mom. It means everything.
We hope to raise enough money so we can go above and beyond the minimum $25 gift for each child and be able to meet the requests!
Help take the stress off of the moms and put the smiles on the children's faces by contributing to this year's gift drive. It is truly in the spirit of the season.
Hour Children is a leading provider of services to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women in New York State.
