Mavis has recently lost four beloved sisters, including one just last spring. Throughout these losses, she stayed devoted as a caregiver. She provided hospice care for two sisters in her home and took on the financial and legal responsibilities for their final arrangements with steady love and dignity.
Today, Mavis is the only caregiver for her adult son, James, who is now 38 and lives with Fragile X Syndrome. What is Fragile X Syndrome?
Fragile X Syndrome affects learning, behavior, and social interaction. While it is different from autism and Down syndrome, all three involve developmental challenges.
Fragile X can lead to social anxiety, repetitive behaviors, and difficulties with communication. It is also a common genetic cause of autism.
Down syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome, while Fragile X results from a change in the FMR1 gene. Both conditions cause developmental challenges.
Each person with Fragile X, autism, or Down syndrome has their own unique abilities and challenges.
Now, Mavis and James are facing grief, caregiving demands, and increasing financial hardship. After years of caring for her sisters, Mavis is emotionally and physically tired, but she still faces each day with quiet strength and hope.
Mavis has always given selflessly to her family, friends, community, and especially to her son. Now, she needs support.
We iWe invite you to help us reach our remaining $5,000 goal. Your contribution will help cover essential living expenses, caregiving needs, housing, utilities, and daily necessities for Mavis and James as they move forward. Donate, pray, or share this campaign to help lift the weight Mavis carries as a loving mother and caregiver. Your support will make a real difference.
