Hold Wausau School District & Teacher Accountable

Donation protected

As my sister and brother-in-law continue their plight to hold Wausau School District, Administration and the teacher accountable for condoning the use of racial and sexist language because they are done in humor (the intent is not to harm, so the impact doesn't matter), their legal fees are piling up as they work their way through the grievance process.

We need to show Wausau School District that IMPACT does matter. Racial, sexist and homophobic slurs by a teacher done in "fun" should not be tolerated. This teacher does not belong in the classroom to further harm another student.

I am hoping this campaign will help lessen their stress and worries (at least from a monetary perspective) with their legal fees and the mental health counseling that all family members are currently receiving.

The Wausau School District wants to silence our voices. We have to fight harder to stand up and stand against HATE. When we stand on the right side of justice, our voices will not be silenced. Help us with our fight!

Since going public, other victims have come forward. They are also fighting hard to protect future students from being harmed.

Here is my nephew's story, as posted here: Details surrounding the harassment of EV and covered by the Wausau Daily Herald: Wausau Asian Community Livid

The Wausau School District has made admission that Rob Perkins, Wausau East High School Band Director, has used racial and sexist comments in the classroom, which are extreme enough to make students feel "unease". What are the consequences of using racial and homophobic slurs? According to WSD, categorize his violations as "insensitive and unprofessional" and reinstatement because it’s all done in humor. I disagree with WSD; Rob Perkin’s behaviors are illegal and severe, gross misconduct - a terminal offense.

WSD commends the student who courageously stepped forward for himself and his peers, yet, this is how they value his courage of doing the right thing. Think about that as our children walk into the classroom everyday, an environment that's supposed to be safe and free from harassment and discrimination, especially from a teacher.
