Urgent Update: Critical Complications, Hospitalization & Saving Christmas

The Story:

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,

We are urgently updating this page as Amanda’s health battle has taken a severe and unexpected turn. What started as a fight to manage serious stomach issues has evolved into a critical, multi-month hospitalization that has left the family stranded and financially drained.

The Medical Crisis

Amanda has been unable to eat or drink for weeks. Recently, she underwent surgery to have a feeding tube (GJ tube) placed to provide life-saving nutrition. However, two weeks ago, she suffered a painful complication known as Buried Bumper Syndrome, forcing the doctors to surgically remove the tube.

Since then, her condition has destabilized further. Her lab work began crashing, leading to a diagnosis of Renal Tubular Acidosis (RTA). This means her kidneys are failing to properly balance the acid levels in her body. The nephrology team is currently working around the clock to understand why this is happening and how to stabilize her. She remains hospitalized in Coos Bay, Oregon, where she has been stuck since Thanksgiving.

The Financial Crisis

Amanda’s husband, Andy, has been by her side every step of the way, caring for her and their 11-year-old son, Bryce. Because of the level of care Amanda needs and the fact that they are stranded away from home, Andy has been unable to work.

The family travels in their RV, but the hospital does not allow RVs on-site. This means they are paying out-of-pocket for:

RV park fees in Coos Bay (which are high for daily/weekly rates).

Propane (LP) to keep the RV warm during these freezing December nights.

Basic living expenses and bills that are piling up back home.

A Heartbreaking Christmas

The most difficult part of this journey isn't just the medical pain—it is the timing. Because Andy cannot work and their savings have been depleted by months of medical crisis, they currently have no way to provide a Christmas for Bryce.

Bryce has been incredibly brave watching his mom fight for her life, but as an 11-year-old boy, the reality that Christmas might not happen this year is devastating.

How You Can Help

We are asking for help to keep a roof over Andy and Bryce’s heads, keep the heat on in their RV, and if possible, help save Christmas for Bryce. Your donations will go directly toward:

Immediate Housing: Paying for the RV space and Propane in Coos Bay.

Christmas for Bryce: Giving a young boy some normalcy and joy amidst this trauma.

Survival: Food and basic bills while Andy remains out of work to care for Amanda.

Amanda is fighting harder than she ever has. She hates asking for help, but right now, her family is in a desperate position. If you cannot donate, please share this link.
