My name is Charis Peden. I'm an emerging opera singer and voice teacher based in Dallas-Ft Worth with degrees from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music and Abilene Christian University.
As a principal and comprimario artist, I've sung with Rogue Opera (Oregon), Opera Piccola of San Antonio, and Opera Louisiane, where I will return this fall as the Witch in Hansel and Gretel. As an opera fellow with the Aspen Music Festival , I had the great honor of singing onstage with the likes of Anthony Dean Griffey and Meredith Arwady in Peter Grimes with Grammy award winner Robert Spano conducting. In the role of clinician, I've worked with young singers in Spain and Colombia and currently teach in the Music Preparatory Division at Texas Christian University.
As fortunate as I have been to be living the dream, my teachers and I believe that it would be a wise career move to sing in Germany. A far greater number of operas suitable to my dramatic mezzo-soprano voice are performed in Europe than in the U.S. and I'm seeking to go from being an "emerging" artist to an "established" one.
This is a big jump! In 2016, I plan to enroll in a Goethe Institut language course, followed by an extended audition tour. The tuition for a four week language course is approximately $1200 . The amount to be raised also includes conservative estimates for international travel, housing, and food for the first three months.
I would be honored if you would consider showing your support with a donation. This potentially life changing trip is not possible without the kind generosity of my friends, family, and supporters.
Thank you!
