HELP BILLET HOCKEY DAD BEAT CANCER

Donation protected

Les & Sally Elder not only are great parents to their 7 wonderful children, but they are great role models for the 4-5 Dells Ducks Players that they have brought lovingly into their home for a 2nd year in a row now.  I am proud to say that we sent our 16 year old son (Christian Vella) 800 miles away to a  place we’ve never been, to a family we’ve never met before and dropped him off at their house for 8 VERY long months.   Long story short… I couldn’t have picked a better more supportive billet family, if I was able to pick them myself.  Les & Sally are 2 of the most wonderful, caring, family-orientated people I have ever met and my son has been lucky enough to spend his 2nd season with them while he has played for the Wisconsin Dell Ducks Jr. A Team in the MnJHL.     They have watched over my son, they have helped my little 16 year old become a man and I want to give back to them and help them the best I can from 800 miles away.

Long story short…Les has had some challenges over the years with cancer and due to some complications had lost his leg.   Obviously, this is something that is very difficult for anyone to swallow and being unable to work and do the things he use to do is challenging mentally and physically.   Les had been “clear” long before my son starting living there, but then my son told me about a month or so ago that Les’s cancer came back.. this time it’s in his lungs.  We were all devastated…  It really hit home for my son, because he had just lost his Grandpa to lung cancer.  Two weeks ago, Les was rushed to the hospital and his wife Sally has pretty much been by his side ever since in the Trauma/Life Support Center an hour away from home.  She can’t be at 2, 3  or even 4 places at once… work, home, hospital, rink etc…  so obviously there’s a 2nd loss of income now, which doesn’t help matters either.   Les is a fighter and has proved it along the way…   but I would love to help this family that I am fortunate enough to call my own now with medical and any other expenses so Sally can help Les fight this battle.
