It is with very heavy hearts that the High Country Healing family must announce that one of our greatest leaders, Colby Hockersmith (or as he referred to himself, "Superman"), passed away at St Anthony's in Frisco, CO on December 5th, 2022 alongside his extremely loving and courageous wife, Jess. He had been surrounded by his entire family and friends in the days/month leading up, and he was showered with love from the many friends, employees, patients and customers that he touched during his time on earth. He will be dearly missed, and he will inspire us all for the rest of our lives.

In late October, and a little more than 3 years after being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, Colby had a minor medical procedure to remove a device. We believe this caused an infection, which turned out to be a significant blood infection called sepsis. He went into septic shock, meaning most of his organs shut down. The doctors and nurses did not think he would survive the infection, but being the ultimate warrior that he was, Colby once again beat the odds and somehow steadily improved over a two week span. Many of Colby's loved ones came to visit him over that time, and it helps to know that Colby was able to say most everything he wanted to to the people he loved, and that the people he loved got to let him know how much he meant to them. Colby's graciousness and kindness have never been a question. He was doing so well that the hospital decided he could go home (in a hospital bed), and that he should continue to recover there. After a day at home, he/we decided he would be more comfortable in a hospital, so he was taken to St. Anthony's in Frisco. A few days after arriving, he started feeling some major pains throughout his body, and he started to decline. After 3 years of consistent chemotherapy and surgeries, his body simply could not take it all any longer. Being the warrior that he was, Colby never gave up until his lungs finally stopped breathing. He was truly incredible until the very last breath.

Throughout his close to 4 year battle with cancer, Colby never complained. Never did he not believe he was going to beat it. He always kept a smile on his face, and he was able to still be a phenomenal father, husband, boss, and friend through it all. Those of us that got to witness it all first-hand are in awe of this human being, and we will carry his spirit and be inspired by his spirit for the rest of our days. Colby was pure, genuine, loving, and fun. He loved his family more than anything, and he treated the HCH family as his own.

Colby's wife, Jess, and their 3 yr old sweet boy, Kaden, are going to be ok. They both have Colby's strength and spirit in them, and Jess is finding a way to keep her head up and continue to be the phenomenal mommy that she is. Kaden is Colby's minnie-me, this world is blessed to have him. We need to help uplift them, however, and we all know that finances are extremely difficult to keep up with during these times. Every dollar raised by this Gofundme will go to Jess and Kaden to help pay for medical expenses, Colby's Celebration of Life, and to help keep them on their feet. Thank you for any support you can offer.
