Hi everyone,
Long story short, my poor boy Hobbes is in some big trouble. He started vomiting over the weekend which progressed to lethargy, weakness and loss of appetite. We eventually got him to an emergency/specialty vet here in Madison, WI and when he had an ultrasound preformed by the internal medicine doctor, we were given some complicated and bad news. What we know right now is that Hobbes has a part of his intestines that's inflamed, so much so that it's potentially causing a blockage. They also found that his liver and spleen looked strange, and so on top of the intestinal problem, he may also have lymphoma. And on top of THAT, he also appears to have diabetes.
The doctors are recommending he have surgery to fix his inflamed, blocked intestines and during surgery they will biopsy his liver and spleen to see if either is cancerous.
This has been a lot to process. I went back and forth about what to do, but ultimately I decided I can't let him go without giving him a chance. He's 12 years old now and I've had him for his entire life. He's been with me for my entire adult life, through every move, every job, even every boyfriend. He's been my constant companion and although he's stubborn, demanding and rambunctious, I love him.
The estimated cost for the surgery and biopsies is $2,900, in addition to the potentially $1,000 I've already spent on having him hospitalized overnight. If he does end up having cancer, we will have to cross that bridge when we come to it.
I've never been someone who finds it easy to ask for help, but this time I really need it. This will put a huge strain on Brent and I, so we're asking for your help. Literally any amount will help us and will give our poor little guy a chance. Even $1 will make a difference to us. If we end up raising any extra money, all surplus funds will be donated to pets in need.
I will be eternally grateful to any and all help we end up receiving. Thanks for listening to our story and please send good vibes for my little guy.
Thank you,
-Liz
