Love & Support for the Olson Family

Ethan is a sweet four years old preschool student of mine. After concerns with his sleep, his parents; Julia and Slater, took him for a sleep study. The pediatric ENT found the results concerning and ordered an MRI.

Julia and Slater were not prepared to hear that Ethan has Chiari 1 Malformation and his brain is protruding into his spinal canal and compressing his brainstem. The MRI also showed a cyst in Ethan’s spinal cord.

On June 13th Ethan will undergo surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. They will be removing part of his skull and c1 and c2 vertebrae in hopes to relieve the compression. This surgery will take 4-5 hours followed by at least a weeklong stay in the hospital.

On top of navigating this new diagnosis, they are going to have added expenses such as lodging in Boston, meals, gas and time missed from work. Julia and Slater are too proud to ask for help, so I’m asking for them! Let’s rally around this wonderful family and show them as much support as possible. Together we can alleviate the financial stress and allow this family to focus solely on their little boy!
